How to make your own map

You can make your own version of this map! Here are the steps you will need to take:

Copy the gregsmap.html file where you want your map to be (if you want me to host it, just let me know). If you're hosting it somewhere other than in this directory, you'll need a new Google Maps API key - once you get one, substitute it in for the <script> tag in the header.
If you're moving the gregsmap.html file out of this directory, download the mapjs.js file as well and put it somewhere. Change the gregsmap.html file to point to it.
Create your own XML file that has your markers on it. The one that is used for my map is data2.xml.
- An example line from the file is <marker lat="30.349667" lng="-97.754298" title="My apartment" caption="6805 Woodhollow Dr. #320<br/>Austin, TX 78731" address="6805 wood hollow dr." cityZip="austin, tx 78731" tags="|people|daily|family|"/>
- The lat and lng can be found from Google Maps. Find the spot where you want your marker to show up, double-click on that spot to center the map there, and then click on "Link to this page". The URL that shows up will look something like this: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=29.716516,-95.402623&spn=0.004617,0.007685&t=k&hl=en. Here the value for lat should be 29.716516 and the value for lng should be -95.402623.
- The title and caption show up on the marker and below (the title is the bold part). If you want to put a line break in the caption (which only shows up on the marker), use <br/> (which is irritating, but the XML file has to be properly escaped).
- The address and cityZip are for driving directions - if you leave them out, you won't be able to get directions to or from the location.
- The tags determine which tags are associated with this entry. Make sure each tag is delimited by | characters (as in the example).
Then change the xmlFileName variable in gregsmap.html to your XML file and reload your page. That should be it! If you're having problems, please let me know.
